Hope Soldiers, a Snohomish County nonprofit that provides support to people who are trying to recover from substance abuse, is holding a candle lighting ceremony for International Overdose Awareness Day.
It is partnering with True North Families, an outreach program at Mukilteo Foursquare Church for the event.
The service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the church, 4424 Chennault Beach Rd, Mukilteo.

Learn about policing: The next Mukilteo police Citizens Academy starts Sept. 17. The free class runs Thursday evenings through Nov. 5 at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Avenue. The class is designed to teach people what it’s like to be an officer and about the topics faced in police work. Applications are available on the city’s website, www.ci.mukilteo.wa.us.

Learn about Lynnwood: The city of Lynnwood plans a free civic lesson called “Lynnwood University” in Spanish on Sept. 19.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Hall. All talks will be in Spanish, lunch is provided, and kids are welcome.
