LOS ANGELES — DeAndre Jordan’s seemingly never-ending summer saga has taken another twist — the Los Angeles Clippers center has parted ways with his representatives at Relativity Sports, the Los Angeles Times has learned.
Jordan informed agents Dan Fegan and Jarinn Akana last week that he was moving “in another direction,” said an NBA official not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Jordan told his agents of his decision to drop them a few days after the NBA fined the Clippers $250,000 on Aug. 25 for violating rules that prohibit teams from offering players unauthorized business or investment opportunities.
The Clippers committed the violation during their pitch to the free-agent center on July 2. They apparently discussed marketing opportunities that the NBA said included a third-party endorsement deal.
The proposed deal was with Lexus and would have paid Jordan about $200,000 annually.
Despite leaving Relativity Sports, Jordan still had to pay the agency the 4 percent it earned when he re-signed with the Clippers for $88 million over four years.
Jordan now has left three agents in seven seasons — Joel Bell, Wasserman Media Group and now Relativity Sports.
He can’t sign with another agent until 15 days have passed after letting his former agents go.
The Jordan drama began when he agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
A few days later, Jordan changed his mind and re-signed with the Clippers.
