TACOMA— Indicted Washington state Auditor Troy Kelley has new legal counsel.
Seattle white collar criminal defense attorney Angelo Calfo is taking over for a team of lawyers from the prominent firm of Davis Wright Tremaine, according to a filing in the case Thursday. No explanation for the change was given.
Kelley is on a leave of absence as he fights a criminal indictment alleging he evaded taxes and stole money from clients of his former business, a real estate services firm.
Calfo is a former federal prosecutor in Seattle who has handled a number of high-profile cases, including representing Olympic Pipe Line Company when it was prosecuted over a pipeline rupture and explosion that killed three people in Bellingham in 1999.
Kelley’s former lawyers included Mark Bartlett, Jeffrey Coopersmith and James Harlan Corning.
