TACOMA — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 27-year-old female inmate at the Pierce County Jail.
Corrections deputies found the Puyallup area woman unconscious in a jail bunk bed around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies tried to resuscitate her before she was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. She died at the hospital shortly after.
She had been booked into jail Tuesday morning and was being held without bail for a felony probation violation.
The sheriff’s office says a preliminary investigation indicates there was no struggle or injury during her arrest and no signs of foul play or suicide.
Investigators are awaiting toxicology tests to determine the cause of death.
