Edmonds City Council incumbents Diane Buckshnis and Thomas Mesaros both are running unopposed in the Nov. 3 general election.
Buckshnis is running for a second four-year term after serving the last two years of an unexpired term. Mesaros is running for a first full-term after winning appointment in 2014.
Their positions are two of five Edmonds Council positions on the November ballot. The other three are contested.
Buckshnis and Mesaros recently sent statements introducing themselves to voters. Here are their statements:
Edmonds City Council Position #4 (4-year term)
Diane Buckshnis: It’s been an honor representing Edmonds citizens for the past six years. Preserving our historical charm, glorious views, wonderful parks, safe streets and responsive government requires diligence to which I remain dedicated.
My record reflects your interests in financial accountability and transparency, community services and the arts, environmental and economic sustainability, and neighborhood livability.
I was instrumental in improving financial policies, reporting, and oversight. I advocated for and am committed to the Edmonds Senior Center rebuild as a community and senior facility. I worked to protect environmentally sensitive areas and supported the Edmonds Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary restoration including Marina Beach enhancements. Additionally, I encourage forward-thinking and pragmatic steps towards addressing transportation and safety issues as well as enhancing economic vitality. Most importantly, I strive to keep Edmonds’ traditional values and character because that’s what we all love about Edmonds and why we live here!
I’m humbled by my diverse endorsements: Washington Conservation Voters; National Political Woman’s Caucus; Sierra Club; Cascade Bicycle Club; NARAL Pro-Choice; Legislators: Chase, Liias, Peterson, and Ryu; Community Advocates: Rose Cantwell, Barbara Tipton, Dave Page, Dave Orvis, Jack Bevan, and many others…
With YOUR vote, I’ll continue working for the entire Edmonds Community!
