Bail set at $2 million for man accused of wounding officer

YAKIMA — Bail has been set at $2 million for a 25-year-old man accused of shooting and wounding a Department of Corrections officer who approached a Yakima home looking for a drive-by shooting suspect.

Erick Romero appeared in Yakima County Superior Court Friday. He was ordered held on suspicion of two counts first-degree assault and other charges.

The corrections officer serving on a violent offenders task force was injured by gunfire Thursday as she and other officers approached the home. She was treated and released from a local hospital. Romero was arrested following a standoff.

KIMA-TV reports that according to court records, three other people inside the home came out before the SWAT team arrived. Court documents show two of them, 21-year-old Fernanda Brewer and 20-year-old Cristino Tejeda, are accused of rendering criminal assistance.

Yakima police say the third person, a minor, who will not be charged.
