Kudos to Andy Skotdal for telling it like it truly is in his Aug. 30 letter, “Cure epidemic of social illness.”
Our All-American City is being overrun with the “recidivist transient.” From my perspective as a resident in the apartment building adjacent to the Everett Public Library I see these aimless souls hanging out constantly in this vicinity, cursing, shooting up, transacting drug deals, accosting innocent bystanders and residents, urinating outside the library and inside the elevators, creating a mess of its bathroom facilities and a health hazard, defecating in our alleys. calling us names “bumming” for money and literally spitting in our faces when refused, with no regard or respect for the rights of the taxpayers of this community who are picking the tab in welfare payments, free cell phones and a plethora of other freebies that they’ve learned how to con out of the so-called “entitlements” our socialist leaders are providing.
To top it off, there is a sign on the south side of the library with the words “SAFE PLACE.” That’s a joke; nothing safe about it! It’s about time that the bleeding hearts that are feeding these pests start completing the job by furnishing them housing, toilet facilities and psychological counseling as well if they are going to plead their case based upon the principles of their stated biblical mission!
It’s a known fact that in pest control, as long as food is available especially if it is free, they will continue to return, multiply and breed an ever increasing population until it gets totally out of hand. I’m afraid we are at that point. Our community politicos didn’t have the intestinal gall for fear of being politically incorrect or sued to pass the city ordinance presented a few months ago to put an end to the steet corner panhandling!
Along that same vein I contacted the mayor’s office in July through the prescribed/suggested e-mail method to schedule an appointment and to date have not so much as received a “robo-response” from his office! My server said “delivered” so I know it went to there but obviously was ignored.
I am suggesting to the people who really care about this acute problem that we as a group rally the troops and inundate both the city and county council meetings en masse with disruptive but civil legal action until our so-called “servants of the people” including the church leadership of this community get off their hands and take some REAL affirmative action and make the streets of Everett safe again!
The mayor’s “Streets Initiative” adopted last year certainly has not shown any significant impact to date. I applaud those mothers and the bikers who took back Clark Park from the “vermin” as well as the firefighters who had the guts to take that chronic offender and care for him in the process of taking him to another town where he would be safer and off our streets and taxpayer expenses.
