Prep football: Everett 36, Shorewood 35 (OT)

EVERETT — The Everett Seagulls emerged victorious in an overtime nail-biter against Shorewood in a non-league football game Friday night.

With the game knotted up at 29 entering the overtime period, Shorewood’s Isaac Whitaker scored on a 3-yard run but missed the extra point attempt.

That setup senior running back Aki Howell to provide a game-tying 7-yard scamper into the end zone. Everett’s subsequent extra point conversion was the game-clincher.

It was a good start to the 2015 season for an Everett program that has gone 1-9 in each of the last three seasons.

Everett quarterback Murdock Rutledge was 12-of-19 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Howell carried the ball 18 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass to James Jenner in the second quarter.

Jacob Leonard rushed three times for 87 yards and a touchdown and Nick Castro caught 8 passes for 57 yards and a score for the Seagulls.

Shorewood quarterback Aaron Okamura threw for 128 yards and a score in the loss. The Thunderbirds had four rushing touchdowns.
