When the Seahawks used their second-round pick in the 2013 draft to select running back Christine Michael, they thought they’d found their running back of the future. Well, now that future is apparently in Dallas:
Dallas is trading a conditional draft pick to Seattle for RB Christine Michael, per source. RB help for Dallas.

Michael is not lacking in tools. The 5-foot-10, 221-pounder out of Texas A&M showed an uncommon burst of speed. However, he was never able to turn those tools into much of the way of production during his time in Seattle. The past two seasons he carried the ball just 52 times for 254 yards as the Seahawks were concerned with possible fumble issues, and this preseason he was outperformed by undrafted free agent Thomas Rawls.
The Seahawks apparently didn’t get much return on their investment in Michael. According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Seattle received just a conditional seventh-round draft pick from the Cowboys in return. The condition is Michael still being on Dallas’ roster after a certain number of games, otherwise the Seahawks get nothing. So apparently there wasn’t much market for Michael.
A week ago Michael and Robert Turbin were duking it out to be Marshawn Lynch’s back-up. Now both are gone — Turbin (sprained ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday and will not be eligible to play this season.
It does, however, open up a roster spot for Fred Jackson. It’s been widely reported that the Seahawks have reached a contract agreement with the eight-year veteran, who was cut loose by Buffalo last Monday. The path is now clear not only for Jackson to be put on the 53-man roster, but also slip into the back-up tailback spot in the depth chart.
It also seems to secure a spot on the roster for Rawls. The Central Michigan product is now Seattle’s third-string running back.
