Recent wind storms knocked out power to multiple traffic signals in Snohomish County.
“I was appalled at the number of drivers who simply drove through those lights without stopping and treating them as four-way stops as we are supposed to do,” said Street Smarts reader Susan Davison of Mukilteo. “Some cars did not even slow down!”
For the record, the official answer from Washington State Patrol: “An intersection with a non-functioning light should be treated as an all-way stop. Unless you are directed by a flagger, police officer, or firefighter, you must stop and yield to the vehicle on the right or to oncoming traffic if you are preparing to turn left.”
