If, indeed, the testimony given to police by Rosemarie Cooper was a lie and useless to the case, then I wonder what purpose was served in having three news writers devote such a huge space to her and her family on Thursday. (“No evidence of warning in school shootings, police say.”)
Was it to provide an opportunity for the “professional” team of detectives and police to present a very defensive statement about their work?
Was it to turn the rest of the Marysville community against Rose who has lived and worked there for many years? Since when is it Herald business to cause personal ruin to a hard-working resident? What has “news” become?
Since this monstrous shooting-wound has to be opened up with every tiny detail for us all to read again, why can’t the conclusion be a positive one?
We all look forward to reading your descriptions of all the other people in the high school that day/week — their ages, qualifications and experience; their spouse’s comments and their inadequacies. Don’t forget to print comments made about them by the SMART team, Sheriff Trenary and Superintendent Berg. Let’s start with the security officer on duty that day, the hundreds of teachers and volunteers at school, the custodian, other subs in attendance and the cooks. Heavy reading is ahead in The Herald.
