A traffic signal could come to the intersection of the southbound Highway 525 off-ramp and Alderwood Mall Parkway as soon as 2017.
D. Long asked: “I travel from Mukilteo to the Alderwood Mall area a few times a month. When I get off 525 from Mukilteo there is a stop sign at Alderwood Mall Parkway. Making a right-hand turn to travel toward the mall can be a time-consuming adventure. Trying to make a left-hand turn to perhaps go to Fred Meyers or another business can take many light changes in order to find an opening that is safe. I am very concerned about what is going to happen once the traffic from the new Costco is also traveling on these roads and want to know if they are going to be putting in a light at this location. Currently trying to turn left at this intersection near the holidays is near impossible.”
Tom Pearce of the Washington State Department of Transportation responded: “The eastbound SR 525 off-ramp to Alderwood Mall Parkway is indeed a challenge, and funding has been an issue. WSDOT has just started design to install traffic signal at this intersection. The current schedule calls for a signal to be installed in early 2017, when funding becomes available.”
