Record calls for 911
Snohomish County’s emergency 911 centers broke records for calls during the Aug. 29 storm.
SNOCOM, based in Mountlake Terrace, received 1,616 calls, and SNOPAC, based in Everett, received 3,751 calls, according to a news release. That’s more than the Fourth of July, historically the busiest day of the year.
With fall coming and with it stormy weather, people are reminded not to call 911 for complaints that aren’t emergencies. Power outages should be reported to the Snohomish County Public Utility District at 425-783-1001 or toll free at 1-877-783-1001.
The use of 911 should be for life-threatening incidents or emergency hazards, such as a power line or tree across a road, according to the release. The same rules apply to texting to 911, a service that is available in Snohomish County.
