Edmonds-Woodway senior Madison Schultz will not play soccer for the Warriors this season. She informed the team of her decision a few weeks prior to the start of the season.
Schultz, who has committed to play soccer at the University of North Carolina, one of the most prestigious women’s soccer programs in the country if not the world, is focusing on graduating from high school early so that she can enroll in second semester classes at UNC and start working out with the team.
Schultz’s decision is similar to the one Lake Stevens quarterback Jacob Eason made. Eason, who is one of the highest ranked college recruits in the country, will play football for the Vikings this season, but won’t play basketball or baseball as he has in previous years of high school. Instead, Eason will graduate from Lake Stevens in January and enroll at the University of Georgia. Eason announced his commitment to play football at the University of Georgia in 2014.
Schultz is just as decorated as Eason. She has represented her country on the soccer field and helped the Warriors win the 3A state championship as a junior last season.
Edmonds-Woodway head coach Bill LeCompte said he is excited for Schultz and supports her as she does what is best for her future.
“She loved her time playing for her friends and with her friends,” LeCompte said. “She’s working on setting herself up for the next level and what that may bring.”
