SNOHOMISH — Officials have identified an 18-year-old Everett man who died during a police pursuit on Monday.
He was Pierce L. Milton, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. His age was misstated in earlier police reports.
Milton was on Cathcart Way in a 1994 BMW sedan, which Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies believed had been stolen, when he was pursued shortly after 9 p.m. The car belonged to Milton’s parents, police confirmed Wednesday.
He reportedly drove across Highway 9 and crashed off the road after a brief pursuit. The car caught fire, and rescue efforts were unsuccessful.
Milton attended local schools, including Jackson High, according to the Everett School District. Most recently, he was enrolled in the Graduation Alliance program.
The pursuit is being investigated by the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team, a countywide group of detectives that investigates deaths when police officers are involved.
Two sheriff’s deputies and one Mill Creek police officer involved in the incident have been put on paid leave.
At least six other people have died from high-speed chases in Snohomish County since 2013.
