Mountlake Terrace City Council incumbent Laura Sonmore and challenger Stephen Barnes will meet in the Nov. 3 general election.
The position is one of three Mountlake Terrace Council positions on the November ballot.
Both Barnes and Sonmore recently sent statements introducing themselves to voters. Here are their statements, in the order that their names will appear on the general-election ballot and in the voters’ pamphlet:
Mountlake Terrace City Council, Position 6
Stephen Barnes: I am a family father and resident of Mountlake Terrace since 1987. I’m asking for your vote this November for City Council, Position #6, and I am for:
- Open and honest politics
- The suburban lifestyle we know and love about Mountlake Terrace
- A City Hall that makes sense
- Expanded business opportunities that benefit our citizens
For open and honest politics: Can politics be honest? I will listen, communicate, and use integrity as your Councilor.
For returning our Council’s focus to the suburban lifestyle we know and love about Mountlake Terrace: This includes fixing some of our best assets, such as the Pavilion as well as reducing the irritations that don’t fit our suburban lifestyle.
Restricted lanes and reduced parking are some of them. See www.BetterMLT.com for more. I will work within the City Council to turn back this progressive parking squeeze.
For a City Hall that makes sense: As Terrace residents, we know the City Hall saga. I was not and am not opposed to a City Hall. But it needs to be one that makes sense.
For expanded business opportunities that benefit our citizens: We should actively court businesses, which bring services and entertainment “back home” to Mountlake Terrace. Terrace money should flow back into Terrace businesses! I pledge to be part of that welcoming committee!
Laura Sonmore: Laura Sonmore has served the City of Mountlake Terrace as a Council member since 2000 and currently holds the position of Mayor Pro Tem.
