LYNNWOOD — The Lynnwood Convention Center’s executive chef was honored Wednesday night during a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the center.

Michael Felsenstein has been the top chef at the convention center since it opened in 2005. He has created appetizers, entrees and desserts for as few as 10 people to as many as 800.

Although he doesn’t have a favorite dish, he loves Mediterranean food. He also enjoys pranks, asking new staff members to mop the freezer and taste test a chocolate recipe that is actually a spicy dark Cajun roux.

Originally from Brooklyn, Felsenstein was trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and graduated in 1988. Since then, he has worked at fine dining restaurants and five-star hotels in New Orleans, Chicago, New York and Seattle, where he worked at the Experience Music Project before joining the Lynnwood Convention Center.

At the celebration Wednesday, convention center general manager Sara Blayne gave Felsenstein a chef’s coat embroidered with his name, title and 10 years of service.

“It’s the chef who receives the recognition and accolades, yet this is a team endeavor,” Felsenstein said in a news release. “I have several people who’ve been with me since we opened in 2005; and I share this wonderful tribute with all of my staff.”

The convention center plans to host an open house and artist reception from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 22. The public is invited. For more information or to RSVP, call 425-778-7155 or email info@lynnwoodcc.com.
