ARLINGTON — Thanks in great part to the efforts of the Arts Council, this city has one of the best public art collections in Snohomish County.
Arlington Arts Council is throwing a party this weekend to celebrate the artistic talents of people in Arlington and the greater Stillaguamish River valley.
Art in Legion Park is 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 in the park, located on Olympic Avenue in downtown Arlington. Listen to music, get your kids involved in art projects, visit with artists who will be there selling their works.
The added benefit of this free annual event is that it provides a launching area for a walking tour of much of the city’s public art.
Murals by Harry Engstrom, stone sculptures by Verena Schwippert and Kirk McLean, metal sculptures by Joe Powers, Lance Careton, Bill Matheson, James Madison and Debbi Rhodes, ceramic sculpture by Marguerite Goff and wood sculpture by Steve Jensen are situated primarily along the Centennial Trail, in the park and near City Hall.
More information about the art-in-the-park event, the city’s public art collection and other activities of the arts council can be found at www.arlingtonartscouncil.net.
