PORTLAND, Ore. — The brother of a teen who fatally shot a Troutdale high school student and injured a teacher has asked that authorities return the rifle that was used in last year’s school shooting.
Lucas Padgett, who owned the rifle, filed a motion with the Multnomah County Circuit Court Aug. 13 asking that the rifle, ammunition, a bulletproof vest and other items be returned to him by the Troutdale Police Department and the state of Oregon.
The Oregonian reported a judge will consider the motion at a hearing Tuesday.
Jared Padgett, a 15-year-old freshman, brought two guns, nine ammunition magazines and a large knife to Reynolds High School in June 2014. He shot and killed Emilio Hoffman and wounded a teacher before turning the gun on himself.
