KELSO — Schools in Kelso will be closed Wednesday as teachers and the Kelso School District continue contract negotiations.
The Daily News reported that even if an agreement is reached before midnight Tuesday, classes for Wednesday are canceled and no access to schools will be provided until the teacher strike ends.
Kelso teachers voted Monday to go on strike starting Wednesday if they don’t have a contract by then. Kelso teachers have been working without a contract since June 30 and say that more competitive salaries are the main sticking point.
Kelso School District Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich said in a letter to parents that the district remains committed to paying teachers a competitive salary while effectively managing its other fiscal responsibilities.
