The Warriors are moving in the direction of hiring two-time MVP Steve Nash as a player development consultant, a source said Tuesday.
ESPN.com first reported news of the former Santa Clara point guard and eight-time NBA All-Star finalizing an agreement with the Warriors.
Nash announced his retirement in March after an 18-year career ended with him missing all of last season with the Los Angeles Lakers due to a back injury.
Nash starred for the Phoenix Suns, a franchise where he played for general manager Steve Kerr, who won an NBA championship in his first year as a coach last season.
Among those Nash inspired was Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, who has spoken of sharing a common small-school route to the league and similarities in their style of play.
