The Cannery, a music venue opened by Everett Music Initiative in April 2014, and the Austin Bar and Grill, a venue that hosted country music acts, were both shuttered recently following a change of ownership of the building in which they were located.
Both venues had their contracts bought out after the new owners of the downtown Everett building, Kirtley Cole, decided to move their operation to the building in the 2000 block of Oakes Avenue.
“While we are sad to lose The Cannery we are happy to see a company bring jobs to downtown Everett,” Everett Music Initiative’s Steven Graham and Ryan Crowther wrote in a statement to The Herald.
Both Graham and Crowther were quick to point out that this was not the end of Everett Music Initiative bringing events to Everett. EMI will continue to host shows in town, including an upcoming partnership with Xfinity Arena on Oct. 16 and a New Year’s Eve party.
“We will also continue our original mission to connect touring artists with shows in Everett, provide local musicians with resources and to continue bringing larger events to Everett like the Fisherman’s Village Music Festival and partnering with our friends at Scuttlebutt Brewing on Rock The Boat,” the statement read.
A message to the owners of the Austin was not returned.
