VANCOUVER, Wash. — A man accused of fatally stabbing a police dog is facing added criminal charges that prosecutors say are warranted given the severity of the case.
The Columbian reported that Jacky Chan Karuo, 25, appeared in court Wednesday on charges of malicious mischief and resisting arrest. Karuo was previously charged with criminal impersonation and harming a police dog in connection with the incident Sept. 1.
Vancouver police say Karuo stabbed Ike, a Belgian Malinois, multiple times after the dog and his human partner, Officer Jack Anderson, answered a suspicious person call.
Karuo reportedly had an outstanding arrest warrant and ran from police. Officials say when the officers caught up with him, Ike bit Karuo in the leg and Karuo stabbed the dog. Ike was taken to an emergency veterinarian and died the following day.
