EDMONDS — The Edmonds Art Studio Tour is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend with a self-guided, free tour of 25 studios featuring 42 artists.
The tour is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20. Maps are available online at edmondsartstudiotour.com or you can stop first Three Graces Studio at 15124 63rd Ave. W. to pick up a map.
The tour attracts people from throughout the region and has become a popular Puget Sound-area art event.
Tourists can watch artists in action and then buy the art from the studios.
Much of the artwork for sale will be affordable to a range of buyers, said tour official Julaine Fleetwood. And the tour is a great way for new collectors to explore the local art scene.
People will find jewelry, pottery, sculpture, wood works, prints, oils, acrylics, drawings, watercolors, pastels, photography, stained glass, textiles, collage, encaustics, glass, beads and more. Examples of the art also are on the tour website.
Painter Sue Robertson, a tour founder, remains a leader of the event. Her focus is on abstract, figurative and still life paintings in encaustic, acrylic and mixed media, created in a warm, colorful style. Various textures, ink, graphite, paper and found objects often are incorporated in her artwork.
At her Joyful Art Studio in Edmonds, Robertson said she enjoys the educational element of the tour. Many people make the tour to derive inspiration for their own art and to ask questions about artistic techniques.
Robert likes to talk about her work and about painting in general, she said.
Relationships formed during the past 10 years between artists and patrons are part of the fun, Robertson said.
