SCAPPOOSE, Ore. — A Columbia County man is under arrest after firing a 12-gauge shotgun from the porch of his house during a fight with his wife.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Scappoose resident Mike Scott was detained on Friday night on charges including menacing and recklessly endangering another. No one was injured.
Authorities say neighbors called to report the man firing the gun; they said he appeared drunk.
As sheriff’s deputies arrived, Scott was still shooting and he fired at least four more shots as deputies took cover. He also challenged them to show themselves. The sheriff’s office says it’s unclear if Scott knew it was sheriff’s deputies who were approaching the home, or if he intended to shoot at them.
Deputies convinced Scott to surrender after a 2.5-hour standoff.
