SEATTLE — Seattle is planning for some traffic headaches during this week’s visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Mayor Ed Murray says that while the city is honored by the visit, everyone needs to be patient and re-evaluate their commutes. Intermittent closures of freeways, arterials and downtown streets are expected. Streets surrounding the Westin Hotel — from Fourth to Seventh avenues and Lenora Street to Olive Way — will be closed while Xi is here from Tuesday to Thursday.
Buses will be rerouted in the north part of downtown, but the downtown transit tunnel is expected to remain open and operating.
Parking on downtown streets will also be restricted.
The city says fans attending the Seattle Sounders game at 7 p.m. Wednesday should expect significant traffic delays.
