SEATTLE — People buying health insurance through the Washington exchange will begin paying their insurance premiums directly to insurance companies instead of the exchange as of Wednesday evening.
This change is expected to eliminate problems Washington residents experienced with the exchange last year, when some premium payments were not credited properly.
Exchange officials say Washington Healthplanfinder will be offline from Wednesday at 5 p.m. through the end of the week to make changes connected to the switch in the premium payment process.
The exchange notes that customers with health and dental insurance through different companies will need to pay both companies directly.
They ask people with billing problems to contact their insurance companies.
