I get that a highfalutin executive official needs some space and security, but closing down half an entire city for three days because the Chinese president is coming to town is just ridiculous! The mayor of Seattle is so out of touch with the people, asking them to “take a vacation/sick day and run some local errands” is about as thoughtless as it gets. I don’t have paid sick leave or vacation days coming. Now, I don’t live in Seattle but, I do live in Everett where the prez is landing at Paine Field where they are going to shut down the Boeing freeway and I-5 all the way into Seattle during rush hour! Just so he is “comfortable” and feels safe.
Our own president was here and things were only shut down for a couple of hours. Not three whole days. How entitled and spoiled is this Chinese president; coming to a foreign land and upsetting how we live and travel like this? I think it is rude, thoughtless and just plain stupid. He could have just taken a helicopter into downtown and all the other places he plan on visiting like Tacoma, Redmond as well as Seattle.
We were told to “telecommute” — yeah if you work for that type of job great if you have one. For most of us that have to go to work. We have to actually go to work! Shame on President Xi Jinping. I would love to know why he is really here and demands all of this security. Makes me wonder, ya know?
