DeMarco Murray’s weekly media availability was abruptly canceled Wednesday, an Eagles spokesman saying Murray had left practice early with a hamstring problem and would not be available.
Injured players are not required to talk to the media. The Eagles listed Murray as a limited practice participant.
Teammates, including fellow running backs Darren Sproles and Kenjon Barner, said they were unaware of Murray being injured or leaving practice. Barner presumably would be active against the Jets if Murray were unable to play.
“I’m not sure what happened to DeMarco,” said running back Ryan Mathews. “I’m sure he’ll be back tomorrow.”
But ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported that Murray will have an MRI exam.
Just before Murray was scheduled to speak, quarterback Sam Bradford downplayed any tensions arising from Murray’s obvious frustration at carrying the ball 21 times for 11 yards in two losses so far.
“I think DeMarco’s passionate. He gets fired up on game days,” said Bradford, Murray’s college teammate at Oklahoma. TV cameras showed Murray staring intently at Bradford on the sideline in the Dallas game after Jason Kelce mistimed a snap that bounced off Bradford’s chest for a fumble. “I don’t think there’s anything that he did on Sunday that took away from our morale.”
“He’s a leader on this team, obviously. He’s probably the biggest leader on this team,” tight end Zach Ertz said, when asked about Murray. “A lot of guys look to him for that leadership role. I don’t know any more than you guys do, so I’m not going to comment on (the injury).”
