Foundation laid for new YMCA
Construction has officially begun on the new Stanwood-Camano Family YMCA, located at 7213 267th St. NW in Stanwood.
Efforts to bring a YMCA to the Stanwood-Camano community have been in the works since 2010. The new 48,000-square-foot full-service facility will provide aquatics, wellness and fitness, youth sports, teen, older adult and family programs.
The center is scheduled to open by fall 2016.
Elvis puts on show for guide dogs
Close to 200 people attended Tracy Alan Moore’s Elvis tribute show at the Historic Everett Theatre on Aug. 15. After expenses, the show generated nearly $2,900 for Guide Dogs of America.
Guide Dogs of America is a California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the U.S. and Canada.
Moore is a member of Machinists Union Local Lodge 751-A who works for the Boeing Co. in Everett. He’s been performing as Elvis for nearly 20 years.
Seafair ‘Miss’ named
Makenna Evenson was named Miss Snohomish County Seafair and will represent Snohomish County at the annual summer festival in 2016.
Evenson received a $500 scholarship in the Spirit of Snohomish pageant.
She plans to study to become a nurse.
Company golf tourney raises $11K
Judd &Black held its annual charity golf tournament recently at Battle Creek Golf Course. The event raised $8,000 for Christmas House and $3,000 for the North Everett Boys &Girls Club.
Christmas House provides holiday gifts to more than 8,900 children from low-income families across Snohomish County. Volunteers are needed, with online sign-ups starting Oct. 1.
