TACOMA — The state Public Disclosure Commission says all people who want to make financial contributions to support a recall of the Pierce County prosecutor won’t be able to be anonymous, even if they work in Mark Lindquist’s office.
The News Tribune newspaper of Tacoma reported Lindquist’s employees will be treated just like anyone else.
The state’s campaign-finance watchdog made that clear Thursday. Members of the Public Disclosure Commission rejected a request from recall backers that would have allowed quasi-anonymous contributions from deputy prosecutors and other county employees.
Commissioner Grant Degginger says allowing anonymity would “frustrate the purpose” of the Public Disclosure Act.
Fircrest attorney Joan Mell says staff members at the prosecutor’s office fear retaliation from Lindquist.
