DALLAS, Ore. — Polk County deputies say a 2-year-old boy shot himself in the leg with his father’s gun.
KPTV-TV reported that the child’s parents drove the boy to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after the incident. The toddler was taken by air ambulance to a Portland area trauma center.
Deputies say the boy’s father was cleaning several guns when he stepped away, leaving a loaded .40 caliber handgun on a coffee table within reach of his son. The boy grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger. No one else was injured.
Officials say the boy is in serious but stable condition.
