OLYMPIA — The Washington attorney general has filed a campaign finance complaint against Service Employees International Healthcare Union No. 775.
The attorney general says in the complaint filed Thursday in Thurston County Superior Court that the union failed to timely and properly file reports of in-kind and financial contributions as required by the state’s campaign finance laws.
The court filing stems from a citizen complaint from the conservative Freedom Foundation, which alleged multiple violations of the state’s public disclosure laws by the union.
The Public Disclosure Commission reviewed the allegations at a special meeting in September and found no basis for the majority of the allegations. But the PDC did find the union violated the requirement to report in-kind contributions of staff time to operate and manage its political action committee.
The union’s secretary treasurer, Adam Glickman, called the issue a technical problem and not about intentionally failing to disclose a contribution. Glickman says the union reported the contributions on one form but the PDC says they should also have filled out a second form about the same contribution.
He says if the union made a mistake, they will fix it.
