Greetings from Husky Stadium, where my preparations for covering the University of Washington’s game against California was interrupted by the Seahawks.
The Seahawks answered the question on whether they will send strong safety Kam Chancellor straight back into the fray, activating him Saturday afternoon and thus making him eligible to play in Sunday’s home opener against the Chicago Bears. Chancellor ended his 55-day holdout Wednesday, so he’ll have less than a week under his belt before suiting up Sunday.
To make room for Chancellor on the 53-man roster the Seahawk waived safety Dion Bailey. Bailey is the player who replaced Chancellor as the starter at strong safety in the season opener, so that’s an unfortunate quick change of fortunes. Bailey was an undrafted free agent who spent last season on Seattle’s practice squad. His most notable moment came when he fell down on the play in which St. Louis scored the tying touchdown in the final minute of regulation as Seattle ultimately fell 34-31 in overtime.
