KENT — Washington Department of Ecology officials say they have fined the owner of a now-closed metal sign company $10,000 for disregarding an order to manage and dispose of potentially hazardous waste.
Ecology officials said in a news release that inspectors have documented numerous issues at Western Metal Art and Sign in Kent, about 20 miles south of Seattle.
They say they’ve found 21 drums of unlabeled waste, four open containers of waste and dozens of other containers and tanks of waste and unknown liquids.
In August, officials ordered the company owner to evaluate whether waste materials should be identified as hazardous waste. They say the company owner has not complied with the order.
The company owner has 30 days to appeal the fine.
