Learn how to help children
The more experiences a child has with dramatic emotional events the higher the risk for poor adolescent and adult health. Divorce, witnessing violence, being abused, or having a parent or close family member with mental illness or addiction can all take a toll on children.
The Snohomish Health District and Lutheran Community Services are hosting an event Sept. 30 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., to educate the community on what they can do to prevent bad situations from becoming worse.
Everyone is invited to attend the event, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It will also feature two documentaries, “The Raising of America: Wounded Places” and “Paper Tigers,” which both have Spanish subtitles.
Pancake breakfast: The Edmonds Sons of Norway Lodge is hosting a pancake breakfast and bake sale from 7:30 a.m. until noon Oct. 3 at the Edmonds Masonic Center, 515 Dayton St. Breakfasts include Norwegian pancakes with strawberries, ham, juice, coffee or tea. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for kids 6 to 10 years old, and there’s no charge for younger children. Kids can participate in free folk dancing lessons between 10 a.m. until noon. Proceeds from the event support the Edmonds Food Bank, Ski For Light outings for mobility and sight-impaired skiers, and scholarships and the Sons of Norway Foundation.
Fire department discussion: A public meeting to discuss the future of the Lynnwood Fire Department is set for 1:30 p.m. today at the Verdant Health Commission, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. No action will be taken at the meeting. The city is debating whether to change how its fire department is governed and organized.
