Silvertips notes from Wednesday’s practice

The Everett Silvertips were back skating today at the community rink since the circus is setting up at Xfinity Arena’s main rink.

Everett announced today that it is reassigning right winger Gunnar Wegleitner to Merritt of the BCHL. The 17-year-old had one goal in 43 games for the Silvertips last year after coming out of nowhere to make the team as a 16-year-old listed player.

Tips GM Garry Davidson was clear that Wegleitner still figures into Everett’s long-term plans. Wegleitner just needs more ice time and this provides that opportunity which he wouldn’t get if he stayed in Everett.

A number of players didn’t participate at practice as they recovered from various ailments and injuries. Connor Dewar was out sick, while Tristen Pfeifer is likely gone for 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury suffered during the season-opener at Prince George.

Yan Khomenko and Dawson Leedahl were both in red jerseys and skated alone with the trainer after practice. Khomenko didn’t accompany the team to Prince George after banging his head on the crossbar last week Monday, while Leedahl sat out Sunday after taking a big hit during Friday’s season opener.

The Montreal Canadiens confirmed Wednesday that Noah Juulsen will play in Thursday’s preseason game against Ottawa. Juulsen suffered a concussion prior to the opening of Tips’ training camp. All indications are that Juulsen will be returned to Everett in the near future.

Fellow former Silvertip alum and Canadiens prospect Nikita Scherbak was assigned to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps. We’ll keep close tabs to see if/when he returns to the Habs.

Also, Ryan Murray is an integral part of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ future. He’s been plagued by injuries, but is entering the last year of his entry-level contract. Murray had an assist during the Blue Jackets’ 5-2 win at Nashville Tuesday.
