Head to the beer aisle at any grocery store or bottleshop this time of month and you’ll see lots of orange.
Pumpkin stouts, pumpkin ales, pumpkin ciders. It’s all there.
But for me the benchmark is Dogfish Head’s Punkin Ale. In a world of too-much-is-never-too-much, Dogfish Head throttles back the spices, making Punkin Ale a balanced ale that doesn’t overpower your palette.
The brown ale has a light aroma of pumpkin pie and has the perfect blend of sweet maltiness and brown sugar with a very slight hoppiness (28 IBU). It’s a great beer to pair with the hearty casseroles that make autumn the best time of year.
Cheers!
