Ye of little faith
Stop freakin’: Our latest WebMonkey poll asked readers for their predictions for the Seattle Seahawks season, considering the team’s disappointing 1-2 start. About 41 percent say they’ll make the playoffs, and 29 percent said they won’t (WebMonkey, Page A3).
The remaining 30 percent screamed, “Super Bowl, baby!” so loudly it startled Marshawn Lynch and caused him to accidently answer a reporter’s question.
Didn’t he have Twitter? A Norman Rockwell painting of a small-town American newsroom is being auctioned to benefit the National Press Club. The painting, “Norman Rockwell Visits a Country Editor,” shows the artist and illustrator visiting a newspaper in Missouri (Page Ax).
Kids, if you’re wondering who Norman Rockwell was, ask your parents. You can ask them about what the press, editors and newspapers were, too.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1789, President George Washington declared Nov. 26, 1789 as a day of Thanksgiving. On the same day in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln set the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day (Today in History, Page C8).
First ladies Martha and Mary proclaimed they were going out for drinks on Friday and told George and Abe to warm up leftovers in the microwave but to leave them some pie.
