What happens during an Amber Alert? A personal story from Edmonds School District: On Sept. 30, my little 8-year-old granddaughter forgot that I was going to pick her up at school and got on the bus instead. She got off the bus, but no one knew what happened afterwards, or knew where she went. While her mom, stepfather, grampa and neighbors frantically searched for her, I stayed at the school. I could see that the staff was well trained for such an emergency and quickly got on the phones to search all possibilities.
By the time she was missing 20 minutes, they had called 911, setting up an Amber Alert. The competence of the school personnel kept me calm and gave me confidence. I stayed out of their way without hysterics or shedding a tear (until after she was found), then I was a trembling wreck. It was a lesson of gratitude for me, and I want to commend the staff at Cedar Valley Community School. Sometimes bureaucracy works just fine.
