LYNNWOOD — Detectives on Friday recovered a handgun from the home where two people, including a 16-year-old Mountlake Terrace High School student, were found dead with gunshot wounds.
On Friday evening, the girl was officially identified as Kandra B. Tan, and the other person as Liheang Ho. He was 33 and from Everett.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner classified the girl’s death as homicide and Ho’s a suicide. Both died from gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
No information was released about any connection between the two.
The bodies were found at about 3 p.m. Thursday by a family member at a home in the 3100 block of 202nd Street SW near Lynnwood.
“Detectives believe there are no outstanding suspects for this incident, nor any threat to the public,” said Shari Ireton spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Tan was a junior at Mountlake Terrace High School, the school’s principal reported in a letter to families Friday afternoon.
“We learned Thursday evening that junior Kandra Tan died at her home,” Greg Schwab wrote. “Her family gave us permission this afternoon to share this news with our school community.”
The family asked for privacy as they cope with her sudden loss, Schwab said.
Extra counselors were at school Friday for staff and students who were affected by the teen’s death. “Kandra is remembered fondly by both staff and students as a warm and friendly young woman,” Schwab said.
The principal told parents that students likely will react differently to the news.
“We don’t always know how a student will be affected at a time like this, but you can help your child simply by listening to and talking with him or her,”
he said.
Schwab urged people not to speculate or spread rumors out of respect to Kendra’s family and friends.
“This is a difficult time for many in our school community and we need to treat each other with compassion and kindness,” he said.
