Boeing could benefit from Canadian election

Boeing’s flagging Super Hornet fighter jet might get a boost from Canadians electing Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to prime minister, Reuters reports.

The company’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is nearing the end of its production life, surpassed by competitor Lockheed’s F-35.

Lockheed’s fighter jet is more advanced and a lot more expensive — $108 million compared to $60 million for the F/A-18E/F.

Previously, Canada said it would buy 65 F-35s.

But Trudeau said the F-35 costs too much, and, if elected, will pursue a cheaper option, such as Boeing’s Super Hornet.
