Bobby Wagner ready to go, plus a flurry of roster moves

The Seahawks are getting their defensive captain back for Thursday’s game at San Francisco, at least according to him. Linebacker Bobby Wagner said Tuesday that he’ll “be ready” to play against the 49ers after sitting out Sunday’s 27-23 loss to Carolina because of a strained pectoral muscle. Wagner said he did everything he could do in order to play against the Panthers, but that the team doctors wouldn’t clear him because there was a possibility of completely tearing the muscle.

Seattle also made a handful of roster moves Tuesday. First, the Seahawks officially reinstated fullback Derrick Coleman to the roster following his suspension. Coleman was suspended indefinitely by the team last week after he was involved in a two-car accident in Bellevue that resulted in his arrest for suspicion vehicular assault and hit and run. Coleman was later released without being charged, though the investigation is ongoing. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Coleman’s suspension would be lifted, though he didn’t say exactly when.

Second, the Seahawks re-signed center Lemuel Jeanpierre. Jeanpierre, who spent the previous five seasons with Seattle, was a surprise cut when the Seahawks had to get their roster down to 75 players during the preseason, considering he entered training camp at the favorite to take over for the traded Max Unger as the starter at center. The news, by the way, was inadvertently broken by Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson during his Tuesday press conference.

The Seahawks had to make two moves to free up spots on the 53-man roster for Coleman and Jeanpierre. Cornerback Crezdon Butler, who was brought in last week to provide depth for Seattle’s ravaged secondary, was released — Tye Smith’s imminent return from his hip injury meant Butler’s presence was no longer necessary. Also, Seattle placed linebacker Brock Coyle, who’s dealing with knee soreness, on injured reserve with the designation to return.
