What: Its small size and upright habit make Acer sieboldianum an excellent choice for the small garden. This slow grower has a narrow, upright crown that slowly broadens with age into a majestic form. The small star-like foliage colors in the autumn to a glistening red with shades of coppery orange. This maple is beautiful as either a single trunk or multi-stemmed tree.
Where: This slow growing maple will develop its best color in full sun to open shade. It will grow best in rich well drained soil with regular summer watering. Very little pruning is need to maintain a beautiful specimen; only remove poorly developed branches, dead wood or broken limbs.
Size: Reaches a height of 15 feet with a spread of 8 feet.
