JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD — A 17-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to shooting his 13-year-old friend in the face at Joint Base Lewis McChord.
The News Tribune reported the boy appeared in court Friday on assault and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.
Lakewood police say the victim was with two other boys, ages 14 and 17, in the woods when the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon. The boys reportedly had entered JBLM property through a hole in a fence.
The third boy involved reportedly told police he heard a gunshot, saw the younger boy on the ground and the 17-year-old with a gun in his hand.
The 17-year-old allegedly told witnesses the shooting was accidental.
The wounded teen remained at a Tacoma hospital Friday.
