ARLINGTON — A man who was applying to become a police officer is now in the Snohomish County Jail after detectives allegedly found child pornography on his computer.
The Arlington man, 32, was applying for a job with the Mount Vernon Police Department when he allegedly admitted to viewing child pornography on computers at his home.
Mount Vernon police referred the report to Arlington detectives who obtained a court order to search the man’s home. They seized three computers, which were turned over to an Everett detective to examine.
“Forensic analysis of the computers revealed over 340 images and one video depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” said Kristin Banfield, an Arlington police spokeswoman.
Detectives also believe that the suspect installed data destruction software on the computers, Banfield said.
The man was arrested for investigation of multiple counts of possessing child pornography. A detective wrote in a police report that additional information could lead to an allegation of distributing child pornography.
The suspect allegedly admitted to a polygraph examiner during the job interview last May that he viewed pornography involving children from ages 2 to 15 for the past 10 years.
In a police report, detectives said the suspect could be a flight risk because he and his wife were planning to move back to California.
