Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett was honored by the league Wednesday as he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7. It is the first time Bennett has earned Player of the Week honors during his NFL career.
Bennett, who’s in his third season with the Seahawks and seventh in the NFL, recorded 3.5 sacks during Seattle’s 20-3 victory over San Francisco last Thursday. The 3.5 sacks were the second-most by a player in a single game in the league this season. Bennett’s efforts helped the Seahawks sack 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick six times, a season high for Seattle.
Bennett is now up to 6.5 sacks this season. That is just a half sack away from last season’s total of seven.
