Russell Wilson on his interceptions, Paul Richardson, etc.

Here’s some of the things Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had to say during his Thursday press conference a the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (with a few words from Earl Thomas, too):

Wilson was asked about the two interceptions he threw in last Thursday’s 20-3 victory over San Francisco. The first one was picked off in the end zone, and the second one was a deep ball thrown into double coverage:

“Last week I was just trying to make a play on that [first] one, and the guy made a great play, honestly, on the one where I just kind of scrambled out, we usually find a way to make that happen. Then the one after, trying to give a guy a chance and its miscommunication. That’s easy fixes, an easy way to eliminate those two I think, so it’s not a problem I don’t think.”

Receiver Paul Richardson returned to practice this week after spending the first six weeks of the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list recovering from the torn ACL in his knee suffered last season. It’s yet to be determined whether Richardson will be activated this week, but Wilson had good things to say about what he’s seen from Richardson in practice:

“I think it always takes time to get in rhythm, but I think he’s such a great football player in terms of Paul Richardson and the plays that he makes. He’s looked unbelievable, honestly, this week. He runs so fast, catches the ball so well, can run every route in the book, loves the game. He’s been working his tail off to get back, so to see him out there this week, all the receivers, all the guys, everybody on the team was just so happy for him because we know what a tough challenge that is to overcome what he’s had to overcome. He’s done it with such class and such work ethic, and he truly enjoys the game and just being out there, you can see the smile on his face. It’s exciting to see him out there practicing with us. I don’t know what the situation is this week, I don’t know anything about that, but he’s a great football player.”

Wilson thinks Richardson will be ready soon:

“I don’t think it will take too long at all. I think just watching him in practice the past few days, he’s been on it and we’ve been on it together. He’s been in every meeting for the most part, if he’s not getting rehab, so he’s even here every single second. He hasn’t missed a beat physically, he’s been training so hard and the trainers did a phenomenal job of helping him get back so quickly. He’ll be ready to go. I’m not nervous about him being out there or anything like that, I think he’s going to have an unbelievable season and an unbelievable career.”

Wilson was asked about the bootleg being a less successful play for he and the Seahawks so far this season:

“Sometimes they have an extra guy waiting over there or whatever, so it hasn’t been as effective. But I think the positive is we’re getting some big runs because of it, because they have an extra guy over here and we fake that way the next time we hand it over there hopefully that guy will still be there. I think it’s a good thing for us. Obviously we want to utilize our whole offense and all the things we can do. I think it’s just taking advantage of those opportunities when we do get them.”

Finally, cornerback Richard Sherman last week shadowed 49ers receiver Torrey Smith rather than sticking to his usual left side. Free safety Earl Thomas had “both hands up” when asked if as a free safety he preferred Sherman to follow the opposing top receiver instead of staying on the left:

“I think the big thing about that is it’s a clear conscience for me when he’s moving around and following the No. 1 guy. That’s all I can say about that, I don’t have to worry about the No. 1 guy.”
