EUGENE, Ore. — Authorities say an alcoholic man jailed in Oregon for trying to steal liquor died on the floor of his jail cell from a medical emergency.
The Register-Guard reports that 42-year-old Tyson Jon Christian’s Oct. 17 death is the third in Springfield Municipal Jail’s five-year history.
The first two were suicides, though neither of the men was on suicide watch.
Municipal jail Commander Russ Boring says Christian was jailed on Oct. 15 and placed on medical watch because he was intoxicated.
Two days later, Christian was found dead. He was still on medical watch.
Boring says it could take months for the Lane County Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death.
He says an initial review suggests jail staff did all they could to save Christian.
