CARDWELL, Mont. — Authorities say a 70-year-old man has died after his vehicle struck a moose on I-90 in southwest Montana and slammed into a semitrailer parked on the shoulder.
Jefferson County Sheriff Craig Doolittle identified the victim as Terry Fitzhum of Spokane, Washington.
The Montana Highway Patrol said Fitzhum was traveling eastbound on the interstate and lost control of his Dodge pickup truck after striking a moose on the roadway at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
The Montana Standard reported that he died at the scene.
It is unknown why the semi was parked on the shoulder.
There was no report on the condition of the moose.
